Got a million seconds to spare for NBC? No, the network isn't giving "The Voice" more airtime. But it would like to find another ratings hit, so it has ordered a new reality/quiz show: "The Million Second Quiz."
With "Ready for Love," the Eva Longoria-produced dating show, pretty much dead on arrival, the peacock network has moved its sights on its next competition series. "The Million Second Quiz" is a 24/7 live competition series spanning 12 days in which contestants are quizzed on trivia -- it's meant to test their endurance as much as their knowledge.
The show will air in prime time live from a Manhattan-based "gigantic hourglass shaped structure," according to the news release, which also serves as the contestants' living space.
NBC is dubbing it the "first fully convergent television experience." With the show on a 24/7 clock, local stations will be able to interact with contestants live throughout the day; and viewers at home will be able to play along at home in real time -- and possibly win a spot on the show.
“The Million Second Quiz is a genre-redefining spectacle,” said Paul Telegdy, the network's president of alternative and late-night programming, in a statement. “It is a game, a social experiment, and a live interactive event all wrapped into a uniquely sticky entertainment experience.… [I]t embraces technology’s ability to allow everyone in America to actively participate and compete in a way that has never been done.”
At stake is up to $10 million.
"The Million Second Quiz" will roll out this fall.
