What a way to kick off the Labor Day weekend! My friend Domingo & I went down to the Walworth County Fair Friday night to rock out with Montgomery Gentry. The weather was warm with a cool breeze, and once the sun went down it was perfect. I’m thinking it might have been a bit humid because by about half way into the show I was sweaty from head to toe. I’m sure it couldn’t have possibly been because I was up on my feet dancing from the moment Montgomery Gentry hit the stage! Yes – they were hot. They are an amazing duo
with a great band who really know how to rock the audience. Because they have made awesome country music for so long, we were able to enjoy a full night of entertainment. Our evening started with “All Night Long”, “Hillbilly Shoes”, “She Couldn’t Change Me”, “If You Ever Stop Lovin Me”, “When I Knew It All”, and one of my favorites “Long Line Of Losers”. Well about now is when I was feeling the sweat pour and I came to the realization that it wasn’t going to stop. I had the pleasure of seeing them perform last year at Wisconsin State Fair, and I remember they rocked the entire night. I knew I was in for a treat!
Montgomery Gentry made it very clear that they’ve only just begun and had a long night planned for us. That beginning line-up was only a warm up. At this point they introduced
us to one of their new songs “So Called Life”. I do believe these talented men have another hit on their hands because it was a great song. The audience really seemed to enjoy it. Next they cranked out “Speed”, “Something To Be Proud Of”, and “Daddy Won’t Sell The Farm”. Oh yah- are you understanding why I didn’t sit down all night long? Such a thing as sitting down with live music like this is not physically possible for me. Then they decided to sing “Tattoos & Scars”, which was not planned but because they received a request for it they worked it in. Now that’s what I call cool! Montgomery Gentry shared some fun stories with us, all of which seem to include drinking. The fun times played out in their songs seem to be parts of fun times they’ve had over the years. I get the impression they’re all about helping people, having fun, and enjoying life to the fullest.
After some familiar songs, Montgomery Gentry gave us another taste of new music, “Damn Right I Am” and “Where I Come From”. These are two absolutely fabulous songs that had the audience screaming for more, so we got “Hell Yah”. It’s a good thing they decided to take it down just a notch, because by this point I was starting to feel a little tired. I give them a lot of credit constantly moving and singing on stage under those hot lights. I feel exhausted when I leave a concert, and I’m only dancing. Our slow down consisted of “Lucky Man” and “Roll With Me”, but that was it because they just kicked it back up into high gear with “My Town”, “One In Every Crowd” and “What Do You Think About That”. What a great way to end the night, but Montgomery Gentry does not give up very easy. It seemed like they would have stayed on stage until morning if possible. It’s obvious they love what they do, and I’m so happy about that because I love what they do. We ended our night with Montgomery Gentry singing “Rock-n-Roll All Night”, (and party every day!) “Na Na Na Na, Hey Hey Hey Goodbye” and another favorite of mine “Gone”. Yes, this was a full night of fun that I’m so glad I was able to be part of. You can bet that you will see me at future Montgomery Gentry concerts; I’ll be the one up on my feet dancing the entire time!
