My friend Becky and I headed down to the Racine County fair on a hot Saturday afternoon for an evening with Little Big Town. We didn’t get there until about 5:30 and it still was plenty hot out – the sun was really cooking! This was the first time for both of us to see a concert at the new Grandstand set up on the fairgrounds, so we didn’t know what to expect. Once we got inside we realized we needed some chairs, so we walked back to the truck, grabbed 2 lawn chairs, (always good to keep them in the truck) and hunkered down into some spots in back just to the left of the stage yet close to the exit. Of course we were thinking ahead to have easy access in and out for beer and bathroom trips! With life being as busy as it is, we don’t have as much time to hang out as we would like, so it was really nice to just relax and chill with one of my dearest friends.
Opening for Little Big Town was a band called 4 Lane Highway. This was my first time seeing them, and they were pretty good. They sang a variety of songs, all of which were upbeat to get you up and moving. Some songs we enjoyed were “Looking For A Good Time”, “That’s How Country Boys Roll”, “Gunpowder & Lead”, “Rain Is A Good Thing”, and “White Liar”. Well this was enough to get us going for sure! It was hot but they sure kept their energy high and moved all around that stage. 4 Lane Highway gave us more fun stuff like “Honky Tonk Stomp”, “Work Hard Play Harder”, “Hicktown”, and one of my all favorite fun songs “Swingin”. Great job get us pumped for Little Big Town!
It sure is a good thing that the sun went down before Little Big Town hit the stage because they were on fire! They all sing and play and perform together so beautifully it’s almost magical. Each member has their own unique sound, yet sound amazing harmonizing together. Some of the great music we enjoyed included “Little White Church”, “Give Me A Little More You”, “Waiting For The Sun To Go Down”, “Back Around”, “Shut Up Train” and “Bring It Home To Me”. Well I can’t speak for others, but me and Becky were having a great time! At this point the weather was very comfortable with a nice cool breeze, perfect for jamming out to “The Reason Why”, “I’m With The Band”, “Wounded” and “Welcome To The Family”.
Now if this line-up isn’t enough to have your head spinning, this is…Little Big Town does their version of cover songs and call it ‘Scattered, Smothered, & Covered’. They said we could find them on their website. The choice for our Saturday night with them was Lady GaGa’s “Born This Way”. Let me tell you, it was off the hook! Honestly, when they first said that’s what they were about to sing, I wondered if it was a good choice. Well don’t let me wonder anymore because it was absolutely amazing. I am really impressed with the job they did on that song, and now I’ll speak for others that they were too because the entire audience was on their feet and singing along and stomping their feet. What awesome talent this band has the way they sing together.
This is a show I’d love to see again. I would love another chance to hear them sing “Firebird Fly”, “Good As Gone” and “Heartache Tonight”. Yes, they made us wait until the very end and came out as an encore to send us home with one of my favorite Little Big Town songs – “Boondocks”. It was worth the wait to the very end. Thanks for a great show LBT!
